Happy and Fulfilled Life in Old Age: Heidelinde Weis Has Retired and Now Lives Alone in Villach
It is pretty obvious that the Austrian actress and singer has retired. The last time she was seen as a performer was in 2015 when she played Anni Gruber in the “Prince Charming in the Province/The Party Queen” episode of the TV series, White-Blue Stories. In 2019, she appeared in the short documentary, Heidelinde Weis in conversation with Dr. Georg Pagitz. Since then, she has not made any notable public appearance and has made it clear that she has retired.
Most people dread living alone in old age but that’s not the case for this veteran entertainer. Weis lives alone in a penthouse apartment situated in the center of Villach, Carinthia, Austria. She told BILD that she is very happy alone and wouldn’t want to share her apartment with anyone. Her life now mainly revolves around her siblings and a small but fun circle of friends.
The 84 Years Old Battled and Defeated Cancer Thrice
Fans, friends, and relatives of the Das Traumschiff actress would agree that her battle with cancer is the prime indicator of her resilience. Heidelinde Weis has beaten cancer three times but she doesn’t think it’s because she is tough as people often portray it. She believes she was just lucky to have good doctors and a great family to see her through it.
The first time she was diagnosed with cancer was in 1998 and the third time was in 2016 when she had bladder cancer. Because of her age, her surgeon was unwilling to operate on her but Weis insisted to have the surgery, believing she had nothing to lose. Thankfully, the surgery went well and she recovered.
Who Is Heidelinde Weis’ Daughter; Does She Have Children?
The famous Austrian actress and singer does not have a daughter, nor does she have any child. Although she was married for nearly 38 years, the union never produced any child. Death brought an end to her marriage in 1998 and Weis has remained single since then with no child.
Be that as it may, she came very close to having a son. Showbizers gathered that Heidelinde Weis had wanted to adopt a son named Augusto from Brazil. As the story goes, she had been sponsoring Augusto from the age of nine through Kindernothilfe Duisburg and regularly visited him. When he turned 14, she approached a local juvenile court to adopt him.
However, it was determined that Augusto was already too old to adapt to life in Europe. Weis continued taking care of Augusto and helped him become a responsible adult. He is now married with two kids and has maintained a relationship with the actress to date: he once visited Heidelinde in Carinthia.
In all, Weis is a widow with no child; the only family members she has are her siblings.
Her Sister Ingrid Weis Is an Author
While several reports have claimed that Heidelinde Weis is not the only child of her parents; that she has siblings, these reports have hardly named any of them. This is so because much isn’t known about members of her family, she is the most popular of them all. Nonetheless, we can confirm that she has a sister named Ingrid Weis.
Ingrid is an author and Heidelinde’s fame has rubbed off on her a great deal. This is partly so because of the close bond they share. The sisters made headlines in 2019 when they volunteered at Caritas learning café in Villach.
On Austrian’s Reading Day of the aforementioned year, the sisters decided to get childing excited about reading. So they volunteered at the Caritas learning café where the famous actress read Ingrid’s book, The Adventure of Rako the Crow Boy, to primary school pupils.
Heidelinde Weis’ sister Ingrid Weis also gained a significant measure of popularity through her relationship with the late German actor, Harald Leipnitz. Although the actor was legally married to Walburga Dohle until he died in 2000, Ingrid Weis had been his romantic partner since 1969.
Heidelinde Weis Was Married to Her Late Husband Hellmuth Duna for About 38 Years
It’s no secret that Heidelinde Weis was once married to late theater producer, Hellmuth Duna. Born in 1919, Duna was 21 years older than Weis but they were a happy couple. Details of how they met and fell in love are hard to come by but we know they were married for over three decades and a half.
Reports have it that they got married sometime in 1960. The union sustained until 1998 when Hellmuth Duna passed on. He had been ill for about 10 years and it made Weis abandon her career to care for him. She had three film contracts which she put on hold so as to provide nursing care for her husband. Duna didn’t like that, so he attempted suicide.
According to the actress, the health challenge of her late husband and the decade she spent taking care of him remain the most difficult moment of her life. Amongst other things, she was shocked that her cheerful husband would attempt to take his life. As far as Heidelinde is concerned, the ten years she cared for her late husband changed her more than her battles with cancer.
